These are two poems I recently wrote in English. The first is for a Martin Luther King, Jr. contest and the second is a letter poem.

Speech

Words

Words spoken by a visionary

Lit the people on fire

Rallied them to his cause

I sit here

In my comfort

I read his words and think

About all I owe him

For his dream

Giving us the freedom

Others aren't allowed

And I have a dream, too

I have a Dream

That our people will break the chains

Will find a way past difference

Will use the bonds of love to heal aching hearts

United we stand

E Pluribus Unum

What does that mean to us?

Can it apply To us all?

One planet, many peoples

United

The Writer in Your Head

Dear Child,

You write the words I give,

You listen to my voice.

We paint great pictures on a canvas,

Learning through our choice.

The words we write bring worlds to life,

We send them out to fly.

And go among our readers seeking

Pure, unblemished sky.

Dragons fly inside your head,

You give their riders song.

A battle rages somewhere else,

It will be o'er ere long.

Kings and Queens and big black beast,

A lady and a rose.

Hoods and ice and warriors,

That's always how it goes.

Legends told of deep dark past,

And whispered in the night.

Secrets kept beyond the years,

And cast off into flight.

The tales will wait another day,

For now it's time for bed.

But I'll be here when you awake,
